In 1940 Rudnev joined the [[Communist Party of the Soviet Union|Communist Party]].&amp;lt;ref name=warh/&amp;gt; During [[World War II]] he served as the director of a [[Ammunition|munitions]] plant.&amp;lt;ref name=sid20&amp;gt;{{cite book|author=Asif A. Rudnev was the chairman of the state commission responsible for launching the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Vostok&amp;#039;&amp;#039; spacecraft with a human on board. The day after Yuri A. Gagarin completed the world’s first human spaceflight, he presented Rudnev with an issue of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Pravda&amp;#039;&amp;#039; dated 13 April 1961 containing the TASS report on the flight, inscribed: “To the supervisor from the performer.
