==Political parties and elections==

The [[General Elections Commission (Indonesia)|General Elections Commission]] ({{langx|id|Komisi Pemilihan Umum}}, ''KPU'') is the body that is responsible for running both parliamentary and presidential elections. Article 22E(5) of the [[Constitution of Indonesia|Constitution]] rules that the KPU is national, permanent, and independent. Prior to the 2004 elections, the KPU was made up of members who were also members of political parties. However, members of KPU must now be non-partisan.
